I use the Internet virtually every day to check my e-mails at home and at work, and I respond to them as needed. I also use the Internet most days to search for information on the news, and often for product, travel, health, political, and financial information. Occasionally, I purchase items through the Internet. My Internet use has occasionally caused me to spend more time working at the office.
My wife's use of the Internet is quite similar. She works and goes to graduate school and checks her personal email every day and her work email when she is in her office. She, too, uses the Internet for information on the news, products, travel, health, politics, education, and finances. She often makes purchases through the Internet. My wife's Internet use has decreased the time she might spend watching TV.

I use the internet to accomplish myriad things in my daily life. Most importantly, I use the internet to research topics for academic assignments that I might need a better understanding of - (Online tutorials for new media tools and software, library databases such as LexisNexis etc. are convenient and helpful.) This helps to complement the information I already have and may also provide me with estoteric but useful, powerful knowledge. The internet can also free me of incorrect information and misconceptions by the ability to check multiple legitimate sources quickly.
I use the internet for banking and also for fun - watching missed TV shows, listening and downloading ITunes, and sending pictures of my 7 month old son to grandma back home. I also use the internet to get most of my news, which for me falls under the "fun" catagory. I only read an actual newspaper once in a great while. Instead of trying to locate and then buy multiple newspapers and magazines, I can go online and read such informative and varied titles as "The Economist" to "The Nation" to "Wired."
My use differs from that of my parents because they only use the internet for keeping in contact with friends and family - (Face Book, e-mail.) They still get their news from the local paper and cable news and only bank in person. I would say that the biggest difference between their use and mine is that I have adopted the internet as a multifaceted tool to obtain knowledge, make my life more structured (paying all bills online,) and to also have fun with. My parents use it in a strickly utilitarian sense.
At work, I rely on the Internet as a communication, research (exporting data), networking and marketing tool. Recently, we just went live with a new website which we will be heavily promoting in the near future. Typically, I don't want to be on the computer after work since I'm tired of being on it all day. If there is a specific purpose, for instance, getting in to touch with family or friend, I'll do that and then get away from the desk -- especially in the nice weather.
I do have to say that I use the Internet when I'm interested in getting something new for a price comparison or to hear reviews/get advice. My latest conquest -- getting a puppy and there is so much information online that it is almost overwhelming.
My husband uses the Internet much more than I do and keeps me in the loop with the latest and greatest online. He enjoys being on the computer much more than I do. He frequently interacts with family and friends on FB, buys music (has been using iTunes since the beginning), and watches free movies. He definitely considers it a form of entertainment where as I'd rather be doing something else in my free time. He is also a student and relies on the Internet for his classes as well.
The effect of the Internet in my life cannot be over emphasized. The most important use of the Internet to me is communicating with family and friends. Through Face book, email and other social networking I keep in touch with friends and family. As an individual who does not like in-store shopping, I shop on line all the time. Online banking is cost and time efficient and it’s another way by which I use the Internet. I also use the Internet for general research, both in my school and personal life. Entertainment is a huge way I use the Internet, I am constantly on YouTube watching funny videos, TV shows and music videos. I also get local and international news from the Internet as I no longer watch news on TV and read newspapers. I also use free online tutorial to gain basic skills in fields I am interested in such as learning French, make-up lessons and photography.
My Internet use is different from my Mom’s. My life is somehow wrapped around the Internet and I can’t seem to function without it. With my mom she only uses the Internet to communicate, I’d say her Internet use is limited to email only.
